Susan M. Nicholson

Susan has been illuminating productions in New York since 2004. Her work spans musical theatre, drama, dance, and corporate events. Favorite productions include "Ragtime" at Cape Rep, "Chicago" at the Welte PAC @ CCSU, and "Shape of Things" at Stamford Theatre works. She has been a resident designer at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts since 2005. While there she has collaborated with dozens of directors on such productions as "Vinegar Tom", "Hedda Gabler", and "Arms and the Man".
Off-Off Broadway she has designed for the Medicine Show Theatre, lighting avant garde work such as "Fire Exit" and "The Balcony" under the direction of Barbara Vann.
Regionally, she has designed at the Forestburgh Playhouse for "The Full Monty" directed by Steven Nachamie, "Diary of Anne Frank" directed by Ron Nash, and "Love Letters" staring Loretta Swit.
Holding a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue in Theatre and Athletic Training, she went on the earn a Masters of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from the University of Memphis in 2004.
For the last four years Susan has been a part of the Design Team for HG Lighting Design working on Broadway and Off-Broadway productions such as "The Who's Tommy 15th Anniversary" and "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" at Broadway's August Wilson, Rooms by Paul Scott Goodman, Flamingo Court with Jamie Farr, and the Rock Tenor with Rob Evan. Dozens of corporate events including the Brooklyn Ball, Boston Public Library Gala, and New York Chapter of NARAS education events, As well as Anti-Gravity at Hammerstein Ballroom and other exotic locales.
A veteran of the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) she has worked on 10 productions garnering an honorable mention in design for River's End with Herrick Goldman. Armed with this experience she is now capable of doing anything with nothing in no time whatsoever.
Honors and Awards-Barbizon Region 3 winner and at the National level Runner-Up, Nominated for an Ostrander in Lighting in Memphis.
